Batcave
For my environment I have decided to create a Batcave, inspired by the design from Arkham Origins, but with twists and variations from many of the different Batcaves from the Batman mythos.
Mindmap
I decided to go with this layout as it was similar to the layout of the Batcave in Arkham Origins and although it was a fairly small it was also functional and added a lot of gameplay, such as being able to access the games' combat challenges from the combat terminal instead of having to go back to the main menu.
Platforms and layout of the cave
This is the basic layout of the Batcave, with the platforms in place to give me an idea of the sense of scale that the cave would have, trying to make it as close to Origins' as possible. To accomplish this I used the Starter Kit from Unreal and scaled the rocks around the platforms.
Batsuit chamber in-game with lighting
I later added the Batsuit Chamber which was animated using matinee in order for it to raise and lower, allowing the player to change costumes and possibly characters. I also added lighting so that the player could see a bit more clearly.
Batcomputer
I then created the Bat-computer which would serve as the game's fast travel station, as well as be able to give intel on the enemies and missions the player would encounter throughout the game. I decided to give it more functionality because in Origins it wasn't used for much outside of a few scripted scenes.
Evaluation
Overall I would say that I am happy with cave overall but I would have liked to put more details into the lighting and the functionality of the props that went into the Batcave, making more stuff more functional like flickering lights or having movies play on the Bat-computer. I would have also liked to have added a tower unit to the Bat-computer and perhaps added trailing wires throughout the cave, as well as a small swarm of bats circling above in the darkness that fly past the player when they go down the walkway or glide down to the training area.
