Evaluation of mood-board
Once given the assignment to create our own level using Splash Damage’s test and putting our own textures and materials on it we were tasked with mind-mapping and brainstorming different features, textures and materials we should have on it. I thought about classic Sci-Fi movies such as Alien (1979) and the Mass Effect trilogy and how they handled spaceships and environments. Alien always gave the claustrophobic thin corridor motive whereas Mass Effect did a similar thing but with more seen detail due to the use of lighting and rust. I decided a mix of those combined with the post-apocalyptic look of games such as Fallout or Borderlands would fit well with what I wanted to achieve with the level. I began to narrow down the options for aesthetics and decided a rustic and dark environment filled with dimmed light and fog would go well for the level. I also though the pipes and door could fit into gameplay with things like air locks and force fields.
